Bank to buy ticket to the high life

The efforts to fund CS38, lets hope it goes without a hitch.

The national proficiency test council certificate of competence in tree climbing and aerial rescue (CS38) is essential for all arborists who intend to climb. However the training assessment does however not come cheap, so how does a student fund such a qualification.

Step -1
Students get a discount on everything right.

I have found a training provider offering this outside of term time. However the course costs £575 for the training, £115 for the NPTC assessment and further £50 for kit hire. So what discount can I manage to obtain for myself. The discounts they have succumbed to date is for free equipment hire saving £50 and a reduced training fee of £500. In addition to this they have offered for me to pay in monthly instalments. This is a total saving of £125 or 16.89%. I am however haggling for a further reduction and haven't yet excepted this offer.

Step -2 Getting the money

Despite the turbulent times they have faced banks are only to happy to advertise student accounts with hefty interest free over drafts. So the plan is to apply for such a bank accounts and use this facility to pay for the course. Once obtained the qualification can be put in to practise and help me obtain work. The idea behind this and the subsequent tickets to follow, is to use them new to get work and earn the money to repay the overdraft without ever having to pay any interest. My application is in and I am awaiting the reply, hopefully it will be favourable and they will offer me a significant overdraft.

The SuBo of the arboriculture world.

The experiment to see if blogger can be my Simon Cowell.

Aim
– To see if blogger can help me get a job.

When looking for work they say you gotta have a USP. Well how about putting your blog URL with your email address and phone number, that would be different.

The theory is that buy putting a blog on your CV it is not only different but it also shows initiative. In addition to this the blog itself will contain evidence of my skills and back up what is written in my CV. With this in mind I have created this experiment which is to build up this blog over the next couple of years whilst I study and then see if it helps me in to employment.

The limited research I have done revealed no evidence of this having been done before. This research also gave no clues to whether or not employers would consider this a good thing. What my research did however show is that building a good blog may mean that no CV will be required. The idea behind this is that networking in this way attracts others in your industry and should mean your never out of a job. This is a nice theory I believe you would have to be good at your job and be a good blogger for this to happen. The reults of all this will be revealed in good time.

Whatever happens the experiment will be considered a success if the aim is met using either theory.
